Kampong Thom

About Kampong Thom

Kampong Thom is a large provincial city of approximately 70,000 people in and around the town, which straddles the Stung Sen (river), one of the largest rivers in Cambodia. It flows into the Tonle Sap (lake).

It is located north of Phnom Penh half way between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh on the NH6 (national highway) and is approximately three hours drive to either destination

The Teachers Across Borders programme in Kampong Thom has operated since 2008. It provides teachers from both the United States and Australia with an opportunity to work with the teachers from the Kampong Thom Province.

Workshop leaders travel from either city in groups or as individuals.

In 2009, a five day workshop was run.

Workshop leaders arrived on Sunday afternoon and departed on Friday afternoon.

There are 36 schools in the Kampong Thom area. In 2009 Khmer teachers and administrators from 21 of the 36 schools attended.

There are few tourists in Kampong Thom which makes it all the more special. It is a friendly town that welcomes the workshop leaders.

The markets are a lot of fun.

There are excursions during the free afternoons and Presenters and Assistants gather each evening for a drink and dinner.
